Nearly Thirty Years of Dressing Women. The Cardigan Is the One I Would Tell You About First.
If you are adding one more layer to your wardrobe this autumn, I would start with a cardigan — something easy to reach for, easy to style, and ready for the little changes in your day.

Nearly thirty years ago, I opened a boutique on Broughton Street in Savannah. It became a place for women to share their lives with us.
I have learned that favourite pieces fit naturally into everyday life.
Autumn is exactly that sort of season. Cool at breakfast, warmer by the afternoon, and chilly again by the time you head home. That is why I always come back to a cardigan: you can button it, open it, or take it off as the day changes.
Here are six things I would tell you about choosing one, in the order I would point them out.
1A cardigan gives you options.
Wear it open over a simple top, button it when the air turns cool, or drape it over the back of a chair when the afternoon warms. You do not have to commit to one temperature for the whole day. That easy flexibility is what makes a cardigan such a dependable part of an autumn wardrobe.
“The best layer is the one that works with your day, not against it.”
“It has not made it back to the closet once since it arrived. It lives on the hook by the back door.”
Janet W., Columbus, OH VERIFIED BUYER
2It brings an outfit together without trying too hard.
A cardigan can make favourite jeans and a plain top feel considered, or soften a dress when the evening turns cool. You do not need to rebuild your wardrobe around it. Start with the pieces you already love and let the extra layer do its quiet work.
“Simple pieces often become the ones we wear the most.”

“I shove the sleeves up to do the dishes every single evening and the cuffs still sit flat. That is unheard of.”
Patricia H., Boise, ID VERIFIED BUYER
3Comfort should be part of the decision.
A beautiful piece is only useful if you feel comfortable wearing it. Think about how you like your layers to sit, what you will wear underneath, and whether the size and measurements suit you. Take a look at the product details before deciding — your everyday clothes should work for your real life.
“Getting dressed should feel easy, especially on the ordinary days.”
“Warm without being stifling. I wore it indoors all day and never once had to take it off because I was too hot.”
Eileen M., Asheville, NC VERIFIED BUYER
4Look at the details, not just the photograph.
Buttons, neckline, sleeve shape, texture and colour all change the way a cardigan feels in an outfit. I always recommend looking through every product photo and reading the description carefully, so you know what you are choosing before it arrives at your door.
“The little details are what make a piece feel like your own.”
“Two winters in and every button is exactly where it started. I have not needed the spare.”
Lorraine T., Scranton, PA VERIFIED BUYER
5Choose a style that works with what you own.
Before adding something new, picture three things already in your wardrobe that you could wear with it. Denim, a simple skirt, a favourite dress — if it fits naturally into your routine, you are more likely to reach for it again and again.
“A good wardrobe is built from pieces that work together.”
“No stretched-out shoulders, no droop at the hem. It looks the same in March as it did in October.”
Donna S., Bangor, ME VERIFIED BUYER
6Make it a piece for real life.
Not just for a special occasion or a photograph, but for the school run, a quiet coffee, a walk outside, or a visit with someone you love. That is the spirit behind the Hazel Cozy Vintage Cardigan: an easy layer to make your own, in a style that feels familiar rather than fleeting.
“The pieces we treasure are often the ones that become part of our everyday.”
“I have always believed that the best clothes are the ones you feel like yourself in. They do not need to be saved for a special day.”

Why Eleanor & Marlowe is entering its final chapter
This is a particularly personal season for our family. Rising costs, changing streets, and the weight of keeping a small shop running have brought me to a difficult decision: it is time to close our doors. My daughter Marlowe has stood beside me, with little Wren close by — three generations sharing one final season together.
Our Last Call Sale is part of that closing chapter, with selected pieces marked down by up to 70% while remaining stock lasts. Once the final stock is gone, Eleanor & Marlowe will close for good. If something catches your eye, please take a moment to check the product details, available sizes, and store policies before ordering.

“Two cardigans on my porch in three days, wrapped in tissue with a note written by hand. I have never had a parcel from anywhere arrive looking like that.”
Carol R., Sarasota, FL VERIFIED BUYER

“The cardigan is one of those pieces I keep coming back to. I would rather see it find a home with someone who will wear it and make it part of her everyday life than have it sit folded away.
